This beautiful but seriously neglected range came to me in terrible condition. Out of all the top burners, only one would spark - the rest had to be lit with matches every time. Neither of the two ovens worked. The gas oven’s spark module was completely dead, and the electric oven wasn’t heating at all. During my inspection, I found that most of the electrical contacts - including thermostats, selector switches, and various connection terminals - were burned, oxidized, or melted. In many places, the plastic insulation literally crumbled in my hands. It was clear that the range had been suffering from years of heat exposure and poor maintenance. Surprisingly, all heating elements still showed proper resistance. That meant they were functional and didn’t require replacement, which was a big relief considering the cost and limited availability of Lacanche parts in the U.S. Here’s the funny part of the story: the homeowner bought this house 12 years ago, and the range was already there. She told me she had no idea what kind of appliance it was - she just thought it was “an old European stove.” When I mentioned that this model starts at around $20,000–$25,000, she didn’t believe me at first! After I showed her similar models online, she was shocked. I explained the overall condition and recommended a full electrical overhaul. She approved the repair, and I began the process of sourcing all necessary components. The entire repair process took me about five hours from start to finish, including roughly one hour to calibrate the electric oven temperature for accurate performance. Once completed, both ovens and all burners worked perfectly. The owner was absolutely thrilled to see the range operating like new again after more than a decade of partial or complete failure.
